Three regulars at our synagogue weekly bible study class arrived late tonight.
They had been caught in the traffic tailback caused by the fatal road accident only a few miles out of town. Although none of them was in the least part involved they were visibly pale and shaken by the experience.
Below is a more accurate of the incident from The Jerusalem Post's online 'breaking news' service:
Five people were killed and some 50 were injured, 17 of them seriously, on Thursday evening in a collision between a bus and a semitrailer on the Acre–Karmiel Road, three kilometres east of Gilon Junction.Dozens of ambulances and a helicopter evacuated the wounded to hospitals in Nahariya, Safed and Haifa.
Police investigators believe the semitrailer had clipped a car, and that the drivers were either in the process of slowing down or had stopped on the side of the road to check the damage when the Safed-bound bus veered from its lane and hit the truck. The entire right side of the bus was sheered off in the accident.
The young Egged bus driver, 25, himself lightly wounded in the crash, was reprimanded by the bus company only last week for dangerous driving, according to Channel 2.
PerfectlyWrite offers sincerest condolences to the bereaved and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
